Where would Jesus protest?

Hooray for a federal judge in Missouri for ruling that funerals are no place for protests. Fred Phelps and his Westboro (I won't demean a legitimate denomination with the name they have chosen) group have been protesting at the funerals of slain military members. They like to tell the family members that the reason their loved one is dead is because the U.S. military allows homosexuals to be in the military. While I do agree that the Bible condemns homosexual behavior, I cannot even begin to think that this is the most appropriate way to deal with the issue.

If you have a beef with the government, take it up with them. Not with the grieving family members of a slain soldier, sailor, marine or airman. That is not how Jesus dealt with the issues of his day, and it is completely offensive and without love and grace.

It truly sickens me. And I cannot believe that it honors God or advances the Kingdom.

Sadly he smears the name of Christ with his antics.

Its no wonder we have a hard time showing people who Jesus Christ is when hard knock christians cannot get it right. This burns me when I see attitudes like this that try and reflect Christ.

I spent several years living, working and attending university in Kansas. I am very familiar with Fred. Fred protests "somewhere" every single day. In a local park, telling small children that their parents and "fags" and are going to burn in hell because they don't belong to his church. Outside of nightclubs, calling all who enter "Fags" for sinning. Proudly waving his "God Hates Fags" poster at city council meetings, and even at the funeral of a teenage boy who was murdered because of his sexual orientation. In fact, I think he even takes his poster with him when he goes to the grocery store! Wait, Fred wouldn't go to the grocery store, because that would be woman's work. The funniest thing that ever happened was when a woman tried to run over Fred when he was protesting in the local park. She said she wasn't trying to hit Fred, just his profain posters. The most popular T-shirt in Topeka KS says "Ph*ck Phelps". Rags and I don't always see eye-to-eye on issues, but on this we agree.

The expatriate in Quebec and I do disagree on a few things, but Phred is an abomination.

On an unrelated note, the expatriate and I do have history going way back. I look forward to seeing sometime when she leaves the enclave :)
