Earth Day 2008

Tuesday, April 22 is Earth Day, and there will be much hoopla over the rising price of gas, oil and food caused by the increased production of ethanol. Rather than engage in endless hand-wringing and navel-gazing, I offer you some tips. Most of them come from Creation Care, a site I encourage you to visit.

Stop junk mail. It reduces landfill waste.

Check out these guidelines from Creation Care.

Stop buying bottled water. Install a filter and use a reusable water bottle.

Ride your bike or walk instead of driving. It will help your body and save you some gas money.

Plant a garden and grow your own veggies. It will save on cost and transportation fuel use to get your food to market.

This is but a partial list. There are many more, and I encourage you to check out the Creation Care website.

Enjoy the world God has given us. But remember to worship God and not the creation.

The Anti-Bottled Water bandwagon grows

Here are a few articles on the subject that have appeared as of late. It seems that I am not alone in my thoughts on this. I must confess that I am getting tired of seeing the bottles lying all over the place in parks and along roadsides, which is part of what is driving this.

And here is something to chew on, courtesy of the Christian Science Monitor: "Surely bottled water is purer and safer? Actually, no. The regulations governing the quality of public water supplies are far stricter than those governing bottled-water plants. True, there are sometimes contamination problems with tap water, but the same is true of bottled water."

This I was aware of from my days of assisting the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department with public relations activities. Mull that one over in your head for a while.

Al Gore and I agree on something

Mark this day on your calendar. Al Gore and I agree that the media is banal and focuses on trivial things. That is where our agreement ends. One of the trivial and banal things, IMHO, is Al Gore and his relentless shilling for his books and movie/slide show. The guy who tells us global warming will kill us all is jetting around in private jets and has a house that consumes an enormous amount of energy. All the while he wants us to change the way we live. How much pollution does a Gulsfstream IV put out as it zooms through the atmosphere?

Hypocrisy should be covered, but it is only covered on one side of the political and religious aisle.

Thanks for reaching out to me Al. I appreciate the love.
